Bab III. Pressure
DEPTH EFFECT TO WATER PRESSURE
I. Objective:
To observe how water pressure changes because of the depth.
II. Equipment and materials:
a. Plastic bottle
b. Ruler
c. Nail
d. Paper tape
e. Thin plastic or
a sheet of rubber
III. Basic theory:
Pressure is a magnitude of force which exerts on a body per area unite of a pressing plane.
Mathematically, a pressure is Formula as:
where: p is the pressure,
F is the normal force,
A is the area.
A fluid can give a pressure although the fluid is at rest in certain place. Pressure caused by a rest fluid is called hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure depends on the depth or height level of the fluid, thats shown in figure 1. ( Prasodjo, Budi; 2009 : 89)
figure 1.
IV. Procedures :
1. Make three holes at plastic bottle by use a nail. Those holes must have same size and distance between the three holes.
2. Close each hole by use paper tape.
3. After that, fill the bottle with water until the water over highest hole.
4. Open the three holes and measure the distance of water flow for each hole in the bottle (X).
5. Measure the high of each hole in the bottle (Y).
6. Make a graphic that show the relation between X and Y.
7. Conclude the result of observation and measurement.
V. Observation Table :
Observation 1 Observation 2 Observation 3
..... cm .... cm .... cm

VI. Question:
1. Whats the hole float the water longest distance?
2. What is your conclution about from the activity above?
