REFRACTION OF LIGHT

Bab V. Optics and Optical instrument
REFRACTION OF LIGHT
I. Objective:
Observe refraction of light.
II. Equipment and Materials:
a. Plan-parallel glass
b. A laser lamp
c. A piece of white cardboard
III. Basic theory:
The speed of light in the air and in the others medium is diffrent. It is caused by the diffrence of the particle density which build it. Because of diffrent of the density, the light undergoes a deflection direction and a change of speed. So when light passes through a boundary plane of two medium with different density, the light is transmitted with direction that has been changed. ( Prasodjo, Budi ;2009 : 199)
That change of direction or deflection of light is called light refraction. It show in figue 1. Below:

IV. Procedures
1. Place the cardboard on the table. Put down the glass on the white cardboard.
2. Light on yhe laser lamp on the table. Put down the glass on the white cardboard.
3. Observe the propagations of ray, before ray passes through the glass, when it passes through/ inside the glass, and when the ray come out from the glass.
4. Write your data to observation table.

V. Observation Table.
Observation
Before ray passes glass Ray passes inside glass After ray passes glass

VI. Question
1. What do you find from the observasion?
2. What is your conclution about from the activity above?
